Determined to showcase her character's passion for basketball during her audition, the 43-year-old actress conceived a clever plan: she would wow the casting team by simulating the art of spinning a basketball on her finger—without an actual basketball in hand.
During her appearance on the 'Catching Up With the Camdens' podcast, Jessica recounted, "The character of Mary had this cool trick of spinning a basketball on her finger." She continued, "So, in my audition, I attempted that very trick—completely sans basketball. What an odd decision! I still wonder who gave me that brilliant idea? It still makes me blush a little, but perhaps it left an impression, who knows?"
Recalling the moment, Jessica added, "'Cool character,' I thought, given her basketball prowess and my athletic background. I resonated deeply, thinking, 'Oh, I get this!'"
