Jessie J has unfolded the emotional depth of her encounter with Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, who has also grappled with cancer. During their heartfelt conversation at the Royal Variety Performance at London's Royal Albert Hall in November, the "Bang Bang" singer shared the profound words exchanged between them.
"She simply said, 'Thank you,'" Jessie reminisced in an interview with Good Morning America on December 5th. "She knew I had endured a difficult time, and I told her, 'I understand you have too.'"

The 37-year-old mother of 2-year-old Sky, with boyfriend Chanan Colman, continued, "And I said, 'As a mother to another mother, both cancer survivors, I see you and feel you. Can I give you a hug?' She replied, 'Of course you can.' I am grateful she accepted it in the spirit it was meant.'"
Kate, who shares children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, with husband Prince William, announced in January that she was in remission following her own cancer journey, which she first shared in March 2024 and included several months of chemotherapy.
Jessie, who revealed in June that she underwent a mastectomy to treat "early breast cancer," defied royal protocol by initiating the embrace with Kate. Despite being "briefed not to," she chose to hug the princess, saying on This Morning on December 3rd, "I saw a mother who has also publicly gone through cancer and wanted to give her a hug. I understood the days she may have endured and just wanted to offer her a hug—as a mother to another mother, as a human to another human."
She added, "I saw her as a mother first and foremost, of course I did respect her as the Princess of Wales."
