Jim Carrey's recent public appearance at the 51st Cesar Awards in Paris has sparked a wave of intrigue and speculation among fans, who are questioning his striking new look. During his acceptance speech for the lifetime achievement Cesar d’honneur, Carrey spoke with reporters after the ceremony, leaving social media users in a tizzy.

"It's a wonderful feeling... I took on a big challenge trying to do my speech in French," he told reporters. "It was a brilliant evening, a really brilliant evening."

One fan asked, "This is not the same person, right?" Another commented, "Does EVERY celebrity have a body double, now? THAT is NOT Jim Carey." Yet another added, "Nope. Not in a million years is that Jim."

Despite these doubts, some fans quickly dismissed any online rumors. One user wrote on X, "He's older and may have had some work done, but I believe that it's Jim. Facelift, eye tuck or whatever it's called, and brown eyes can appear lighter in different lighting. Hairline changes with age and also gets wider with the facelift due to skin pulling back. Same voice, same mannerisms."

On Monday, Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of France's Cesar Awards, dismissed the rumors, telling Variety that Carrey's appearance at the ceremony was "authentic" and a "historic moment." Caulier also noted that Carrey had worked on his acceptance speech in French for months, underscoring the actor's active involvement and personal commitment to the event.

"Jim Carrey's visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy's invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words," Caulier said in a statement. "He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson, and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again."

Caulier also weighed in on the impersonation theories, saying, "For me, it's a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance."

Carrey's representative said in a statement to People magazine on Monday, "Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards, where he accepted his Honorary Cesar Award."

In 2022, ahead of the release of "Sonic 2," Carrey announced that he was taking a break from acting and revealed the only thing that would ever bring him back. "Well, I'm retiring. Yeah, probably. I'm being fairly serious," Carrey told Access Hollywood at the time. "It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I'm taking a break."

He continued, "I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas. I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough."
