Let the office chatter ignite with excitement - John Krasinski has been crowned People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2024. The esteemed actor, writer, and director received this prestigious honor during "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Tuesday night, as the magazine proudly announced his selection.
Krasinski, who initially stole hearts as the charmingly awkward Jim in "The Office," has since solidified his unique place in Hollywood with the eerie and suspenseful "Quiet Place" saga and spearheaded the exhilarating action-thriller series, "Jack Ryan." In a lighthearted interview with the magazine, he humorously expressed his hope that his wife, actress Emily Blunt, would uphold her vow to decorate their abode with the magazine cover as wallpaper, adding a whimsical twist to their love story. He has now inherited the enviable title from last year's recipient, Patrick Dempsey.
Before the announcement, Colbert cracked a joke, confidently asserting that he was destined to be the pick. He playfully remarked, "I just really thought this was gonna be my year. Now, who are we kidding? I'm never gonna be the sexiest man alive." During a pre-recorded sketch, Colbert and Krasinski introduced Krasinski's whimsical "6-step program" to achieving sexiness.
The 45-year-old Krasinski revealed to People that his initial reaction to the honor was a blank state of shock. "It was just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts," he said, adding that he initially thought he might be the victim of a prank.
From his breakout role as the scruffy, lanky Jim on the U.S. version of the mockumentary "The Office" to his transformation into the clean-cut, muscular action star in Amazon's "Jack Ryan," Krasinski has come a long way. He has also co-written, directed, and starred in the critically acclaimed "A Quiet Place" franchise, which has expanded into three films. Additionally, he created the immensely popular pandemic-era web series "Some Good News," which, though short-lived, left a lasting impression.
Earlier this year, Krasinski debuted his sixth directorial effort, "IF," a heartwarming film about imaginary friends that also starred his wife, Emily Blunt. The couple shares two daughters together.
Krasinski quipped to People that the honor might result in more than just lighthearted jokes at home. "I think it's going to make me do more household chores," he said with a chuckle.
Now in its 40th year, the Sexiest Man Alive title has been bestowed upon iconic figures such as Mel Gibson, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John F. Kennedy Jr., David Beckham, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Rudd, and Pierce Brosnan.
