Jon Bernthal returns with a vengeance as the iconic Punisher in the eagerly anticipated Spider-Man film, "Brand New Day." His journey as Frank Castle/Punisher, a heartbroken father who transforms into a vigilante, first began in 2016 on Netflix's "Daredevil." Bernthal then went on to headline his own series, "The Punisher," which ran from 2017 to 2019.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the talented actor from "The Amateur" has joined the cast of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," marking his highly anticipated debut on the big screen in a Marvel film. In a captivating photograph recently shared by Steve Sands of New York Newswire on social media, Bernthal is seen donning the iconic black Punisher suit, complete with the chilling white skull emblazoned on his tactical vest.
This revealing image emerged shortly after lead actor Tom Holland was spotted filming scenes for "Spider-Man" in Glasgow. Additionally, Bernthal will take center stage in a crime/thriller special for Marvel TV, which he will also co-write alongside director/writer Reinaldo Marcus Green. According to THR, the special will pick up where previous seasons left off, rather than rebooting the entire plot or character arc.
As of yet, the release date for the Punisher special has yet to be announced, but it is confirmed to air sometime in 2026. Speculation is rife that the upcoming show could debut alongside "Daredevil: Born Again 2" in March 2026, given the apparent connection between the two series, as evidenced by Frank's return in the first season of "Born Again."
Meanwhile, Marvel's pipeline of upcoming projects continues to flow. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, while "Daredevil: Born Again" is currently streaming weekly on Disney+ on Wednesdays.
