Josh Duhamel is fully embracing the wonders of fatherhood, cherishing every fleeting moment. The 52-year-old actor reveals that life with his two sons, 12-year-old Axl and 19-month-old Shepherd, is a tapestry woven with joy and unexpected delights, making parenthood his most cherished role to date. "Every day brings something fresh and exciting," Duhamel confided to PEOPLE. "I absolutely adore being a dad; I revel in every significant milestone we reach together." Shepherd, his youngest, is a bundle of joy shared with wife Audra Mari, whereas Axl, his eldest, is from his previous union with Fergie.
Duhamel elaborated on how his boys exhibit vastly different interests. "My father-in-law is an avid car enthusiast and a proud collector, and I believe Shepherd has inherited his grandfather's passion," he said with a smile. "He's utterly enchanted by cars; all he desires is to climb into the driver's seat and imagine himself at the wheel. Whether it's a tiny tricycle or a full-sized vehicle, he's eager to pretend and steer."
Conversely, Axl has his own unique fascinations. "Cars aren't really his cup of tea," Duhamel admitted. "He's more captivated by soccer and basketball statistics. But that's the magic of genetics; each one of them blossoms with their own distinct traits."
While Duhamel relishes being a father to his two boys, he remains open to the idea of growing his family further. He heaped praise on Mari, 31, calling her "an exemplary mother" and "a wonderful role model," and expressed his delight at the prospect of welcoming another child. "We're hopeful for another addition to our family—perhaps a little girl this time, or maybe another boy. Only time will tell."
For the time being, Duhamel is immersing himself in the joys of parenting, from engaging in sports conversations with Axl to indulging Shepherd's fascination with cars. He asserts that fatherhood continues to be the most fulfilling aspect of his life, a journey filled with love, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments.
