The Hollywood Reporter has officially announced that Josh O'Connor and Cailee Spaeny will join Daniel Craig in the eagerly awaited sequel to Knives Out, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Last week, writer and director Rian Johnson took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reveal that Craig would reprise his role as the suave detective Benoit Blanc in the next installment of the ensemble murder mystery franchise. In a thrilling 45-second teaser video, Johnson also unveiled the sequel's intriguing title.
"Get ready for the next Benoit Blanc mystery," Johnson captioned the post on Friday. "The followup to Knives Out and Glass Onion is called Wake Up Dead Man."
Following Johnson's announcement, Netflix also confirmed Craig's return and the sequel's title on its Tudum site.
"That's right, Daniel Craig is back as the charming Southern detective in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery," the streaming giant declared. "Benoit Blanc will once again unravel a brand-new murder mystery in an undisclosed setting, surrounded by a colorful cast of suspects."
Johnson also teased on social media that production for the sequel is set to commence soon.
"I adore everything about whodunnits, but one aspect I cherish the most is the genre's adaptability," Johnson said on X prior to revealing the film's title. "From Carr to Christie, there's a vast tonal spectrum to explore, and delving into this range is what makes making Benoit Blanc movies so exciting."
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is slated to premiere on Netflix next year, promising another thrilling installment in the franchise.
O'Connor, who recently stole the show in the tennis drama Challengers, and Spaeny, who starred in A24's Civil War and leads the upcoming Alien: Romulus due out Aug. 16, will add a fresh dynamic to the ensemble cast. Both actors are represented by top-tier talent agencies, ensuring that their talents will be showcased to the utmost in this eagerly anticipated sequel.
