Karol G etched her name into history at Coachella Sunday night, becoming the first Latina to ever headline the prestigious annual festival. Her performance was a visual and auditory masterpiece, filled with surprises and guest appearances by Becky G, Mariah Angeliq, Wisin, and Greg Gonzalez.

As she closed her set, the superstar declared, "I am Carolina Giraldo from Medellin, Colombia, and today I am the first Latina woman to headline Coachella." The crowd erupted in cheers, and Karol G added, "I am very happy and proud of this achievement, but at the same time, it feels like it's come a bit late. I want to acknowledge that there were so many legendary Latina artists who paved the way for me to be here tonight."

Starting a bit behind schedule at around 10:30 p.m., the Colombian superstar launched her set with a cave painting-style video that narrated the story of a wild, free woman who loses her voice to the pressures of assimilation but regains her freedom and becomes a goddess. Karol G then emerged to perform "Latina Foreva" and "Un Gatito Me Llamo."

Angeliq was the first guest, joining Karol G to perform their track "El Makinon" from her third album KG0516. As she approached Coachella, Karol G expressed her desire to leave a lasting impact on the broader Latin community, particularly in light of the Trump administration's aggressive tactics targeting immigrants. She echoed this sentiment in her Sunday set, showcasing various genres and delivering a message of resilience to her audience.

"This night is not just about me," she said. "It's about my Latina community, it's about my people. It's also about my fellow Latinos who have been struggling in this country lately. We stand for them. I stand for my Latina community. I'm proud because this brings out the best in us—unity, resilience, a strong spirit. We do this not to take anyone down but to welcome everyone to our culture and music. I want everyone to feel proud of where they come from. Please don't feel scared, feel proud. Raise your flag."

Karol G's show came two years after fellow superstar Bad Bunny became the first Spanish-language artist of any gender to headline the festival in 2023. This weekend, she followed an intricate Friday Night headlining set from Sabrina Carpenter and a more stripped-back Saturday night show from Justin Bieber. Karol G's show was ambitious, featuring an impressive stage design that resembled an ancient adobe house and over a dozen background dancers. The performance was filled with numerous costume changes and set shifts, with one standout moment being when she danced on a gigantic macaw and another when she was in a dreamy lake setting as her backing dancers doused her in water.

From the intro video to the final song, her set was a celebration of women—from her backing dancers to the numerous female musicians who received a spotlight, including an all-female mariachi band. Other guests during the night included Becky G, who duetted with Karol G on their multi-platinum hit "Mamiii," and Cigarettes After Sex, who premiered an ethereal new track. Wisin also joined for several songs.

Karol G closed weekend one with "Provenza," sending off the crowd dancing as fireworks exploded behind her as she and her team took their final bow.
