Pop sensation Katy Perry and Hollywood heartthrob Orlando Bloom have officially announced their separation, six years after their engagement, according to US media outlets. The duo, who have been an item since 2016 and share a four-year-old daughter, have issued a joint statement through their representatives, revealing that they have been evolving their relationship over recent months to focus intently on co-parenting.
"The couple will continue to be spotted together as a family unit, as their primary concern has always been, and will forever be, nurturing their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect," the statement reads. It further clarifies that the announcement is in response to the "myriad of recent inquiries and speculations" surrounding their relationship status.
Perry, 40, and Bloom, 48, briefly parted ways in 2017 but soon reconciled, eventually getting engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019. A year later, Perry excitedly unveiled her pregnancy in the music video for her single "Never Worn White." Their daughter, Daisy Dove, arrived later that year, with the joyous news shared by UNICEF on its Instagram page; both Perry and Bloom serve as goodwill ambassadors for the UN agency dedicated to aiding children worldwide.
The couple's decision to part ways comes after a challenging year for Perry. Her recent album, titled "143," and its lead single "Woman's World," failed to resonate with audiences as deeply as her previous works. Currently on tour, the singer has reportedly seen slower ticket sales compared to earlier stages of her career. Additionally, Perry, along with a group of fellow female celebrities, faced criticism following their Blue Origin space voyage in April, which Perry described as leaving her feeling "battered and bruised."
Perry, who shot to fame in 2008 with the chart-topping single "I Kissed A Girl" in the UK, has since delivered hits like "Roar," "California Gurls," "Firework," and "Never Really Over." Meanwhile, Bloom, best known for his roles in "Pirates Of The Caribbean," "The Lord of the Rings," and "The Hobbit," was previously married to Australian model Miranda Kerr and shares a 14-year-old son, Flynn, with her.
