Indeed, it was none other than Ke Huy Quan, the star of "Everything Everywhere All at Once," who lent his voice to that harrowing phone call. In the season opener, Timothy, the patriarch of the Ratliff family portrayed by Jason Isaacs, receives a flurry of inquiries from journalists probing into some dubious financial dealings from years past. Distressed, he leaves a voicemail for his former business partner, Kenny. Come Episode 2, Kenny finally returns Timothy's call, and to everyone's surprise, it is Quan himself on the line. (Curiously, the actor's name is neither listed in the episode credits nor credited for his voice cameo on IMDb.)
"Why is The Wall Street Journal after me, Kenny?" Timothy inquires anxiously of his old chum.
"I couldn't care less about the bloody story," Kenny responds, his voice fraught with panic. "Twenty agents just raided my bloody office! I'm screwed."
As Kenny descends into hysteria over the prospect of incarceration, Timothy's tone turns guilt-laden: "You assured me this couldn't happen. You bloody swore it!"
"I never imagined some snitch in my office would sell me out to the media and the bloody FBI," Kenny retaliates. The situation seems dire indeed: Kenny reveals that federal agents have seized everything - "my accounts, my emails, all the bloody documents."
He further confesses to using a burner phone for the call and warns Timothy that he is implicated too.
"This was a favor for you, remember that?" Timothy explodes. "I didn't want any part of it! This was all your doing, and now I'm entangled in some money laundering and bribery mess, all for a measly $10 million from your idiotic scheme!"
Timothy's tone then takes a menacing turn: "I swear to God, Kenny, if you screw me over on this, I will kill you. I will bloody kill you, do you hear me?"
Fortunately for Kenny, he's halfway across the globe. "If it eases your conscience, I'm gonna bloody kill myself," he responds before Timothy abruptly hangs up.
This isn't the first occasion "The White Lotus" creator Mike White has roped in a celebrated friend to lend their voice to a minor role in his vacation-themed dramedy. In Season 2, Laura Dern's voice was heard on the other end of the line as the estranged wife of Michael Imperioli's character, Dominic.
