In his recently unveiled memoir titled "Cudi: The Memoir," the esteemed American rapper Kid Cudi fondly reminisces about his chance first encounter with Timothée Chalamet, weaving a vivid narrative of a bond that has flourished with each passing year. Over a decade ago, the acclaimed record producer recalls a pivotal moment—meeting the then-17-year-old Chalamet, who was navigating the tumultuous waters of his nascent career, and imparting words of profound encouragement at a time when they were most needed. What commenced as an unassuming encounter between an admirer and an artist swiftly blossomed into a genuine friendship, radiating warmth and authenticity.
Within the pages of his book, the musician, born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, who rose to fame with his hit "Pursuit of Happiness," recounts how the young Chalamet, devastated by scenes being cut from Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" (2014), crossed paths with him during a concert in Montreal. It was there that the rapper, also known for his role in "Dune," imparted life-affirming wisdom: "This is your destiny... You're gonna be alright, bro." Cudi had initially intended the meeting as a simple opportunity to "catch up with a fan," but the now Oscar-nominated actor forged an unbreakable connection with him. The musician fondly remembers, "I was like, 'Oh, cool, I'm gonna meet this little guy.' He was 17. I said, 'Yeah, let him come over, bring his friends.' Hanging out with him then was amazing, and we're still tight to this day."
At 41, Cudi marvels, "It's incredible how my friendship with Timmy has transcended the industry. We're really brothers." While the singer, renowned for his track "Better Place," may not keep a tally of how many lives he's touched with his wise words, the 29-year-old Chalamet has always held his influence dear, affectionately dubbing him a "legend" and "the best ever." Though Cudi was not the one to pave Chalamet's path into acting, he certainly provided the much-needed confidence boost during moments of self-doubt.
