Kim Kardashian is opening up about her journey as a mother to her expressive and vibrant teenager. In her October 15 interview with Alex Cooper on the *Call Her Daddy* podcast, the 44-year-old reality star and actress delved into how her 12-year-old daughter, North West, has inherited her passion for beauty. "I've had those heart-to-heart talks with North about makeup because she's absolutely obsessed with her lip liner," shared the SKIMS mogul, emphasizing that her "door is always open" to her children and their friends. "And she'll say, 'But Mom, I literally grew up sitting in your lap while you were getting your makeup done, watching you work your magic.'"
North has been immersed in Kardashian's glam squad environment for so long that she now regards the professionals, including makeup artist and entrepreneur Mario Dedivanovic, as her "mentors." She's even taken it upon herself to share her newfound knowledge with her friends. "I love that they're... still kids at heart," the *All's Fair* star remarked. "What they do on weekends is, they gather in a room and experiment with all sorts of makeup"—not just any makeup, but special effects makeup, which North has been mastering through classes she's been attending.
While Kardashian's parenting style is uniquely her own, raising a teenager in the public eye hasn't been without its fair share of criticism. During a mother-daughter outing in Rome in September, the *Kardashians* star faced backlash for allowing North to sport a dermal piercing on her middle finger. The fashion statement sparked debates over whether the piercing was age-appropriate.
Nevertheless, Kardashian believes North possesses a remarkable level of maturity. "She's incredibly self-assured in one way; she'll say, 'Mom, I saw this and I don't really care if they don't like my blue hair or this or that.' She's so confident and will add, 'I probably wouldn't want to hang out with those people anyway,'" Kardashian shared.
Kardashian even confessed that she occasionally makes mistakes, particularly when it comes to North's wardrobe choices, but she asks for just "a little bit of understanding." "I'm like, 'Okay, we're never wearing that again. Unfortunately, we made that blunder in front of the entire world,'" she admitted, adding, "as a mom, you're kind of learning and growing alongside your kids."
In a September sit-down with *Complex Style*, Kardashian opened up about what her eldest child has taught her about fashion and beauty. "She has an incredibly unique style. She introduces me to so many brands; she just loves what she loves," the mother of four said. "And it's truly exhilarating to see someone be so creative and have such a strong sense of self."
In addition to North, Kardashian is also a proud mother to sons Saint, 9, and Psalm, 6, and daughter Chicago, 7, all of whom she shares with her ex-husband, Kanye West.
