Jimmy promises to be a heart-wrenching journey through the life and work of Stewart, showcasing his Oscar-winning performance in A Philadelphia Story, his heroic service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and his defining role in It’s a Wonderful Life. Apa's character asks in the trailer, "Don't I have the right to serve my country just like anyone else does?" This prompts Riggle's response, "America can't afford to lose Jimmy Stewart."

Later in the footage, Apa declares, "Someday, I'd like to be able to look at myself in the mirror and see a good man looking back at me." Burns directed the film from a script by Justin Strawhand, with the duo serving as producers alongside David Cook, Angela Galgani Sullivan, and John Norton.

Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, an executive producer on Jimmy and Stewart's daughter, expressed her delight and excitement at Apa's casting in a statement released earlier this year. "My family and I are thrilled that KJ Apa has agreed to play my father in this film," she said. "Beyond his remarkable acting skills, KJ's enthusiasm for the project will undoubtedly add to the energy and depth he will bring to the role."

Apa is widely recognized for his starring role in the series Riverdale and for his notable features The Map That Leads to You and The Hate U Give.
