The screen awaits the return of Huntr/x...but the reunion tour of the girl group may be a while off yet. According to Bloomberg's initial report, Netflix and Sony have finally sealed the deal for a second "KPop Demon Hunters" movie, with plans to unleash the animated musical sequel on the world in 2029. Given the lengthy production process of animated films, a potential four-year gap between installments is expected. Of course, release date plans are subject to change depending on the film's production schedule.

"KPop Demon Hunters," a fantastical adventure where a fictional K-pop girl group uses their music to protect the world from demons, was crafted and produced by Sony Pictures Animation. As part of Sony's licensing deal with Netflix, "KPop Demon Hunters" debuted on Netflix and became the streamer's most-watched movie of all time. Meanwhile, three of its original songs—"Golden," "Your Idol," and "Soda Pop"—have become fixtures on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and could even earn nominations at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

"KPop Demon Hunters" has become a cultural phenomenon that even Netflix, known for its aversion to theaters, decided to bring a sing-along version of the film to the big screen for fan events in August and October. During the first outing, "KPop Demon Hunters" topped the box office with roughly $18 million over two days. Then around Halloween, the movie collected $5 million to $6 million, a notable achievement considering it has been widely available on streaming for months.

Co-director Maggie Kang, who collaborated with Chris Appelhans on the film, has long expressed her desire for a sequel. "We've set up so much for potential backstory," Kang told Variety in July. "Obviously, there are so many questions left unanswered and areas yet to be explored. We had to do that because there's only so much movie you can tell in 85 minutes."
