Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard find themselves in a tizzy over a controversial post that has ignited social media. The 45-year-old actress has sparked a heated debate with a "tone-deaf" joke that seemed to minimize the gravity of domestic violence. Just days later, the couple was once again dragged into the fray for a resurfaced interview from 2012.

In the interview, the stars of Nobody Wants This and Shepard shared a story from a drive to a promotional event for their movie, Hit and Run. The Good Place actress could be heard saying, "He was so excited. We drove to brunch and the first thing I said, five minutes into the ride, I said, 'This sounds like it’s gonna break.'" The actor and podcast host kept a poker face as he replied that he was "very offended," adding, "And then I hit her several times." Bell joked, "And then I got beat up, and guess what — I never opened my mouth again."
The untasteful joke has resurfaced amid the ongoing controversy that began after Bell's 12th wedding anniversary caption. "Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: 'I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,'" Bell wrote, which sparked backlash from social media users.
