Kristen Stewart is unveiling one of the most significant decisions of her life. In her monologue on Saturday Night Live in February 2017, during which she hosted the show, the director of The Chronology of Water shared her choice to come out. She directly addressed President Donald Trump, stating, "I'm so gay, dude."

"It wasn't about sharing the details of my relationship," Kristen explained in a teaser for her February 2 interview on ABC News Live Prime with Linsey Davis, according to People. "It was more about acknowledging that there are people who don't get to fully live their lives because they're hiding."

The 35-year-old actress continued, "I've experienced perspectives, had conversations with people I've known, loved, and trusted—and still do—who thought, 'Your career would go better if you didn't go outside holding your girlfriend's hand.' And I was like, 'So you want me to live a partial life? And you want me to uphold, perpetuate, and sustain a system that excludes people?' And I just can't do that."

Kristen's comments come as she enjoys her first year of marriage to wife Dylan Meyer, who she also worked with on her upcoming directorial debut, The Chronology of Water. "We have very, very different but very cohesive energies," she said of her wife, who is credited as a producer on the film, in a December interview with E! News' Will Marfuggi. "This might sound totally arrogant, but I think that we're kind of unstoppable. She's meditative and very macro. I am so micro. It just works."

While Kristen didn't feel as though she had previously been hiding who she was, she felt that addressing it head-on would ultimately help other people. "None of my relationships have felt guarded because I didn't want people to know me. I want people to know me," she explained. "I felt like they did, so I didn't really need to fill in the blanks. But at that point, it felt like a statement that might unlock other people's doors."
