Lady Gaga is making her triumphant return to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs)! The pop icon has officially been added to the star-studded lineup of performers for the highly anticipated 2025 VMAs ceremony, set to take place on Sunday, September 7th. Both MTV and the VMAs made the thrilling announcement on social media on Saturday.
"Prepare for magic to fill the air at the 2025 #VMAs, as @LADYGAGA takes the stage!" the VMAs posted on Instagram. "Her return is a performance you simply cannot afford to miss."
Joining Gaga, who is affectionately known as Mother Monster, on the star-packed bill are a host of already announced performers, including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, and Tate McRae. Additionally, Sombr, Alex Warren, and J Balvin, featuring DJ Snake, will also grace the VMAs stage with their talents.
This year marks Gaga's eagerly awaited return to the awards ceremony. Her last VMAs appearance was a whopping five years ago in 2020, where she wowed crowds with her performance of "Rain On Me" alongside Ariana Grande.
The singer of "Abracadabra" is the leading nominee at this year's VMAs, with an impressive total of 12 nominations. Gaga is up for top categories such as Video of the Year for "Die With a Smile," Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year for Mayhem. Closely trailing behind her are Bruno Mars with 11 nominations and Kendrick Lamar with 10.
Despite already having an impressive 18 VMAs to her name, Gaga's most iconic moments at the MTV-hosted awards ceremony are undoubtedly her debut performance of "Paparazzi" in 2009 and her controversial appearance in 2010, where she wore a dress made entirely of raw meat.
At this year's ceremony, Mariah Carey will be honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, and she will also perform a medley of her greatest hits. LL Cool J will serve as the host for the evening.
For the first time ever, the 2025 MTV VMAs will air on CBS, while also simulcasting on MTV and streaming exclusively on Paramount+ for subscribers to the service's premium plan. Get ready for an unforgettable night of music, magic, and memorable moments!
