Liam Neeson recently imparted wisdom to Rolling Stone, emphasizing that punctuality on set stands as a cornerstone of an actor's professionalism. The seasoned 73-year-old is currently leading the charge in Paramount's "The Naked Gun" reboot, sharing the screen with Pamela Anderson. The film debuted with a robust $17 million at the domestic box office, marking a commendable kickoff for a comedy amidst today's competitive theatrical landscape.
"Punctuality is paramount," Neeson stressed, referring to the importance of arriving on set on time. "I've come across disconcerting tales of immensely talented actors and actresses who arrive hours late—two, three, even four hours after call time. I couldn't fathom working alongside such individuals. It strikes me as deeply disrespectful. Imagine a team of 60 to 80 souls, eagerly awaiting your presence. The bare minimum one can offer is to honor their time by being punctual."
Neeson refrained from naming names, and it seemed unlikely that he was referencing any of his recent co-stars from "The Naked Gun." This comedic flick offers a humorous twist on Neeson's late-career transition from action hero to a bumbling police detective. Though rarely at the forefront of studio comedies throughout his career, this role could pave a new path for Neeson as his action-packed era draws to a close.
In an interview with Variety, Neeson revealed that while he still occasionally receives offers for action films, his interest in them has waned. "I'm 73, goodness gracious," he exclaimed. "I wouldn't dream of insulting audiences by featuring in elaborate fight scenes that no longer resonate with my capabilities. I simply wouldn't do it. Until quite recently, I relished performing my own stunts. But the thought of doing so with the aid of a Zimmer frame or cane is unacceptable. Perhaps another action gig might come my way, but nothing concrete is on the horizon."
"The Naked Gun" is currently showing in theaters nationwide, brought to you by Paramount Pictures.
