The screening of the latest "Final Destination" film took an eerie twist, almost mirroring a scene from the horror franchise itself, when the roof of a theater in Argentina caved in on unsuspecting viewers. The harrowing incident unfolded on May 19 during a showing of "Final Destination: Bloodlines" at Cinema Ocho in La Plata, Buenos Aires, as reported by Infobae, a digital news outlet in Argentina.
"Honestly, we hadn't intended to go to the movies," Fiamma Villaverde shared in a translated interview with the outlet. "It was my birthday, and we were just walking around when we stumbled upon the theater. Seeing that the tickets were cheaper than usual for the week, we thought, 'Why not?' We went in, grabbed some popcorn, and settled into the theater. The movie had just begun."
The "Final Destination" franchise, now in its sixth installment, follows a group of individuals who narrowly escape death after a mass casualty event but are then hunted by death itself, facing bizarre and gruesome fates.
Villaverde, accompanied by her 11-year-old daughter and a friend, recounted that near the end of the film, they heard a thunderous crash. "There was an incredibly loud noise. At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so engrossed, but then a huge chunk of the ceiling fell on me," Villaverde recounted. She added that a section of the ceiling landed on her, hitting her shoulder, back, knee, and ankle.
Fortunately, she managed to escape more severe injuries, noting that the debris missed her head because she was leaning on the armrest. "I demanded a refund for my ticket," Villaverde said. "While I was waiting, the theater manager approached me and asked, 'How do you want us to rectify this?' I flew into a rage: 'How do you think I want it fixed? I'm going to file a complaint. Just imagine if it had hit my daughter in the head! They're completely irresponsible!'"
Videos and images circulating on social media depict a gaping hole in the theater's ceiling and debris scattered across the floor. "When life mimics art," one user captioned a post on X, attaching an image of the roof collapse. "Several injured. No fatalities. Of all the movies this could have happened during," another user remarked.
According to some moviegoers, the recent heavy rainfall is suspected to have been a contributing factor to the roof collapse. However, the theater has yet to release an official statement.
