Lisa Kudrow has unveiled an emotional anecdote, sharing that she recently unearthed a heartfelt note Matthew Perry had tucked away inside a "Friends" prop, a memento dating back 20 years. During her appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show" on Tuesday, the actress recounted how Perry had bestowed upon her the iconic cookie jar from the beloved series' set, presenting it to her as the curtains closed on their final episode in 2004.
"I stumbled upon the note he had hidden within that jar, meant just for me," Kudrow reminisced. "It had never crossed my mind to peek inside; I simply forgot about its existence until now," she added with a touch of nostalgia.
Although Kudrow chose to keep the contents of the note a closely guarded secret, she echoed Barrymore's sentiment, who warmly embraced her and wisely quipped, "Timing really is everything." Prompted by Barrymore's curiosity about whether Kudrow had ever taken anything else from the set, the actress admitted to having a secret keepsake but hesitated to reveal its identity.
"I tremble with fear at the thought of disclosing what it is," Kudrow confessed, her voice tinged with anxiety. "I dare not speak its name… I'm terrified… lest someone comes to reclaim it."
Perry, who passed away peacefully in his Pacific Palisades home in October 2023 at the age of 54, was immortalized for his portrayal of Chandler Bing in "Friends," sharing the screen with Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc. The cause of his demise, as stated in the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office autopsy report, was the acute effects of ketamine leading to drowning, a tragic conclusion to his long-documented battle with addiction.
In a poignant tribute following Perry's death, Kudrow penned, "Thank you for delivering lines that left me doubled over in laughter, my muscles sore and tears streaming down my face, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Thank you for your unwavering openness in a six-person dynamic that necessitated endless compromise and countless conversations. Thank you for bravery in showing up, despite your illnesses, and shining brilliantly nonetheless. Thank you for gifting me the finest decade any person could ever hope to experience," her Instagram post warmly continued.
