Lisa is making waves as a solo artist, with the 27-year-old BLACKPINK rapper and singer recently earning the distinction of becoming Billboard's inaugural global cover star. In an interview released on November 14th, Lisa opened her heart about embracing her solo journey and confidently owning her sex appeal in this exciting new chapter.
"Initially, I was petrified and anxious, as I'd never ventured out on my own before. But now, I'm thoroughly enjoying every moment," Lisa shared about her solo career. "When my singles dropped, the overwhelming response from my fans was like a balm to my soul. It was like, 'Oh my goodness, I did an amazing job!'"
The "Pink Venom" artist further revealed to Billboard that she is now eager to showcase her vast array of talents to the world. "In BLACKPINK, I was primarily a rapper, stuck to my rap verses. But now, I have the opportunity to demonstrate to the globe that I'm capable of much, much more," she enthused.
The South Korean girl group, comprising Lisa, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo, will make a triumphant return in 2025, as confirmed by Lisa to Billboard. "We understand each other intimately and know precisely how much effort we need to invest in every project," Lisa said about her former bandmates, emphasizing their enduring bond.
"We want to lend our support and say, 'You've done fantastically!' For instance, Jennie and Rosie have recently released their solo tracks, and we're constantly in touch, whether through texts or FaceTime. They're like family," Lisa continued. "I'm overjoyed that they're putting out music. This is something we've all wanted to do, so I must say, I genuinely adore their songs."
Discussing the freedom of calling her own shots as a solo artist, Lisa remarked, "It's a bit more relaxed now." "We're no longer newcomers. I'm 27, on the cusp of 30. Though I'm still young, I feel like we have more flexibility now."
One of Lisa's recent highlights was when she kicked off the 2024 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with an exhilarating performance of her song "Rockstar." While chatting with Billboard for the global cover issue, Lisa discussed collaborating with her choreographer Sean Bankhead to deliver a performance that was unforgettable and brimming with sex appeal.
"It's nothing over the top," she said about her growth as both a woman and an artist. "I feel like I'm just doing what I want, and it doesn't harm anyone. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone's feelings."
Recently, the singer revealed that she had returned to Thailand to film the third season of The White Lotus, where she stars as hospitality worker Thidapon Sornsin. The new season is set to premiere in 2025.
