In a heartfelt conversation with Women’s Health, Lizzo recently unveiled how Beyonce played a pivotal role in her journey towards healing from depression, a condition exacerbated by bombshell sexual harassment lawsuits filed against her in 2023 by three ex-dancers. The "About Damn Time" singer delved into the darkest chapter of her life, revealing a time when she felt "consumed by paranoia and isolation," leading her to push away everyone around her.
"I hit a point where I ceased communicating even with my therapist," confessed the 37-year-old. "I wasn't present in my own life; I was closed off, unrecognizable as myself." Lizzo acknowledged the depths of her despair, sharing, "There were moments when living felt like an insurmountable burden... I even entertained the thought, 'What if I just gave up?'" Yet, she emphasized, "I never contemplated suicide or took any concrete steps towards harming myself."
She further pondered, "If the world turned its back on you, labeling you as vile, what was the purpose of continuing?" But amidst this turmoil, Lizzo found a beacon of hope in the form of Beyonce.
The "Truth Hurts" artist credited Beyonce for lifting her out of the depths of depression and anxiety. Initially, Lizzo felt apprehensive about attending Beyonce's Renaissance Tour, but a warm acknowledgment from the "Pink" singer and the unwavering support from her fans served as a catalyst for her healing process.
"That acknowledgment ignited a spark within me, making me realize, 'Hey, maybe life still holds value. It's worth fighting for,'" she continued, her voice tinged with gratitude. As she wrapped up her interview, Lizzo, using her birth name Melissa, added, "That was the spark that ignited my resolve. I told myself, 'Melissa, pull yourself together and reclaim your life.'"
