Lola Young Says She's In "Drugs Recovery" 6 Months After Onstage Collapse

Lola Young, the "Messy" singer, has embraced a tidier lifestyle and shared a positive life update after taking a monthslong break from the spotlight in the wake of an onstage medical emergency late last year.

In an interview published in The Times of London on March 28, she said, "I would rather not say too much for the sake of my privacy. But what I would say is that recovery is an ongoing process. I'm not the finished article, but I'm doing a hell of a lot better."

Lola, 25, clarified that she is in "drugs recovery," adding, "When you're in recovery... that doesn't necessarily mean drugs—but for me specifically, yes."

During her set at the All Things Go music festival in New York in September, Lola seemed to mouth that she was going to "faint" while performing her song "Conceited," as seen in videos shared on social media. Within seconds, she stumbled, dropped her microphone and fell backwards, at which point crew members whisked her offstage.

Following the incident, Lola assured fans she was "doing OK," but proceeded to cancel her scheduled performance at the festival's Washington, D.C., stop the next day. "I love this job and I never take my commitments and audience for granted so I'm sorry to those who will be disappointed by this," she wrote in an Instagram Stories post at the time. "I hope you'll all give me another chance in the future."

From there, Lola announced an indefinite hiatus from performing, sharing that she would be "going away for a while." "It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future," she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. "Thank you for all the love and support."

"I really hope you'll give me a second chance," Lola continued, "once I've had some time to work on myself and come back stronger."

Last month, Lola made her triumphant return to the stage at the 2026 Grammy Awards, where she performed as part of a montage with her fellow Best New Artist nominees. She also became a first-time winner at the ceremony, taking home the trophy for Best Pop Solo Performance.

"I don’t know what to say, thank you so much," she said as she accepted the award. "Obviously you can tell by my f--king face that I’m very, very grateful for this."
