Dree Hemingway was well aware that her latest role would make a significant impact. The actress, who portrays Daryl Hannah in the FX series based on the romance of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, shared a letter she had penned to the Kill Bill star in light of her performance in the show, which has faced controversy for taking perceived creative liberties.

"It was truly a heartfelt note expressing my admiration for her as an actress and a woman, even before I was cast as Daryl," Dree told Nylon in an interview published on March 4. "It was more about expressing my honor and gratitude for being able to portray her and delve into her life. It wasn't about seeking a meeting or a conversation; it was simply about expressing my deep respect for her."
Despite this, the 38-year-old did consider reaching out to Daryl, who dated the late son of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on and off from 1988 to 1994. "I would have loved the opportunity to speak directly with her," she continued. "But there's always a degree of nervousness when speaking directly to someone. I didn't want to intrude or make her feel uncomfortable if that wasn't something she wanted to do."
Although Dree never received a response from the 65-year-old, who married Neil Young in 2018, she understood that Daryl, an alum of Sense8, might need time to come to terms with her portrayal. "The show has just premiered," Dree explained. "I'm sure there's a lot for her to digest and process."
Meanwhile, Daryl recently broke her silence on the Ryan Murphy-produced series, describing the on-screen depiction as "irritating, self-absorbed, whiny, and inappropriate."
"The character 'Daryl Hannah' portrayed in the series is not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct, or my relationship with John," she wrote in a New York Times op-ed published on March 6. "The actions and behaviors attributed to me are simply untrue."
