Lynn Ban, a celebrated jewelry designer and a prominent figure in Netflix's "Bling Empire: New York," tragically passed away just weeks after undergoing emergency surgery, stemming from a skiing mishap. She was 52 years old. Her son, Sebastian, broke the heart-wrenching news on Instagram, revealing that she had departed on Monday, January 20th.
"My mum left us on Monday," he captioned a series of cherished family photos. "Aware of her desire to share her journey post-accident and brain surgery, I felt it fitting to make one final post, informing all who have supported her of this somber news."
"While many of you followed my mum's journey, you may never have had the privilege of meeting her in person. I wish to seize this moment to portray the real her," he continued. "She was, and forever will remain, my closest confidant, the ultimate mother to me, and a compassionate soul who cared deeply for all."
Sebastian further shared, "Even during her arduous recovery, her face would light up with a smile. She was a fighter till the very end, the bravest woman I've ever known." He remembered her as "the funniest and coolest mum" one could ever have.
"Though she's no longer with us, I vow to ensure her memory endures and her life is celebrated as it truly deserves," Sebastian concluded. "To my mum, in my final message, I'll miss you eternally. Your words, 'I love you more than life itself,' will forever resonate in my heart."
The post's comment section saw an outpouring of condolences, including from singer-turned-entrepreneur Rihanna, who penned, "2025 is already taking too much from us! This is unbearable! Lynn, you'll forever be our fairy godmother! My love for you transcends time. I can't believe I'm writing this here! Thank you for the innumerable joys you brought into our lives!"
Ban's "Bling Empire" co-star, Dorothy Wang, consoled Sebastian, sharing, "Your mother's eyes would sparkle whenever she spoke of you – a memory I'll cherish forever." Wang added, "So many wonderful aspects of your mother will remain etched in my mind. She was a true badass, yet a kind beacon of light. Fashion and appearance mattered to her, but above all, it was you and your father who held her heart. We're all devastated."
On December 30th, 2024, Ban bravely disclosed that she had suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage, necessitating emergency surgery following a skiing accident on Christmas Eve. "In the blink of an eye, life can turn upside down," she wrote on Instagram, accompanied by hospital photos post her emergency craniotomy, which left half of her head shaved and her scalp dotted with surgical staples.
Ban recounted skiing with her family in Aspen when disaster struck. Despite wearing a helmet, her ski tip caught on something, causing her to fall face-first. "It didn't seem that bad at the time, and I managed to ski down," she wrote. "Being cautious, I sought a concussion check from the ski patrol, who cleared me. I had a headache but assumed it would subside after lunch, allowing me to ski again. A paramedic advised a hospital visit for a CT scan."
"That advice saved my life," Ban emphasized, relating how her husband, Jett Kain, hailed a taxi to rush her to the hospital. Within half an hour, doctors diagnosed a brain bleed and arranged for her airlifting to a trauma center. "A long recovery journey awaited me," she concluded.
Lynn Ban is survived by her beloved son, Sebastian, and her husband, Jett.
