Prime Video's adaptation of "God of War" has found its iconic All-Father. Mandy Patinkin has been cast to embody the role of Odin in the streamer's interpretation of PlayStation's massively popular ancient mythology-themed video game. The actor, known for his roles in "The Princess Bride" and "Homeland," portrays a character that is not physically imposing or particularly god-like, yet one's looks can be deceiving. He is the most powerful Aesir god, a patriarch who rules with an iron fist and an unparalleled seeker of knowledge. When it comes to prophecy, Odin is paranoid, manipulative, and dangerous - he will stop at nothing to prevent Ragnarök, the Norse end of days.

Earlier today, Prime Video also announced that Icelandic-American actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Deep) has been cast as Thor in the series. "God of War" has already received a two-season order and is being produced by acclaimed genre showrunner Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander). Preproduction is underway in Vancouver, with Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, Fallout) signing on to direct the first two episodes.
Previously announced cast members include Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Max Parker as Heimdall. Other cast members have yet to be announced. With the massive success of "Fallout," which is currently airing its second season, Amazon is hopeful that "God of War" will be another hit based on a legacy video game title.
The show's official description: "God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of his wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human."
"God of War" is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
