His fiery piece not only denounced the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. but also revealed a sobering truth. Despite numerous Hollywood stars voicing their opposition to the merger, many have remained silent due to fear. As Matt Stoller, the research director of the American Economic Liberties Project, eloquently noted, "The most striking aspect of that letter wasn't who signed it; it was who didn't. Not because they disagreed – but because they were afraid. The reasons to block this deal are myriad, but we now believe the most fundamental is what we've encountered when urging artists to use their voices: fear. A profound, ugly, and pervasive fear of speaking out."

Ruffalo's piece came after he, along with over 4,000 others, signed a petition urging the blocking of the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, citing potential job losses and a decrease in competition as a result of consolidating several companies under one umbrella.
