Apparently, Martin Short didn't think that the cake in his section was the only wedding cake at Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's wedding. The star of "Only Murders in the Building" detailed attending his costar's "perfect" wedding in September. However, he admitted to causing a slight mishap later in the evening when he sat with Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, and show co-creator Dan Fogelman.
"There were big, big tents, and at the back of the tents were these individual seating areas with couches and chairs," the 75-year-old comedian explained on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Jan. 21. "And there was a cake, a wedding cake, by our section. But it was a small wedding cake."

"I just assumed there was a wedding cake for each section in the back," he admitted. "After a few hours, they hadn't cut their wedding cake yet... Steve said he was gonna leave."
Joking that "maybe" he might've "had a cocktail" beforehand, Martin revealed, "I had a fork in my hand, and I said, 'Steve, you can't leave yet without a piece of wedding cake!'" He recalled cutting into the cake with the fork, causing an uproar from his "Only Murders" crew. "All the people in our group screamed, 'Marty!'" As a photo of the white heart-shaped cake with fork marks appeared on the screen, Martin admitted to making a slight dessert miscalculation.
"It was the wedding cake," he confirmed, jokingly adding how he even attempted to "fix it with the fork." Though the "Saturday Night Live" alum acknowledged that the situation was "bad" and happened just "an hour before it was supposed to be presented" to Selena, Benny, and their guests, the wedding coordinator and chef were able to salvage the sweet treat. As Martin put it, "It ended up being a Hollywood wedding cake: beautiful but now it had a little bit of work done."
But it was Selena's reaction to the cake snafu that was most memorable for Martin. "I kept saying we can't let Selena know," he said. "And then as I was leaving, Selena came by and said, 'Hey Marty, I heard you tried to eat my cake!'"
Dessert drama aside, Martin shared what it meant to be part of their special day. "It is such a great thing to go to a wedding where you just know that these people are perfect for each other," he emphasized. "Selena is like an extra child of mine. We adore her so much. She found this guy, and he's the greatest guy."
Selena, 33, and Benny, 37, tied the knot on Sept. 27, nine months after the music producer popped the question. Martin isn't the only "Only Murders" star who has shared insight into the wedding. Steve, 80, also raved about the "beautiful, beautiful wedding" in November, telling "Entertainment Tonight," "She married a very lucky guy, but also a very talented and funny guy."
For her part, Selena has been living on a cloud since becoming a wife. As the "Who Says" singer put it to Apple Music in November, "It has been a dream so far. I know it will come with ebbs and flows, but it’s the most beautiful person that I can do that with."
