Matthew McConaughey can certainly vouch for the notion that size does matter—at least when it comes to the dimensions of one's bed. After asserting in his new book *Poems & Prayers* that downsizing your mattress is the ultimate move for enhancing marital bliss, the *Interstellar* icon shared some enlightening anecdotes about how opting for a smaller bed has positively impacted his relationship with his wife, Camila Alves.
"We've got kids, and when we visit friends who have these colossal double king-size beds that the whole family piles into, it's all fun and games when the kids are little," Matthew, the proud father of Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12, (all with Camila) explained to Fox News. "You've got the wife on one end with her nightstand, the husband on the other, and it's cozy when all three kids are there. But then, the kids outgrow that phase. Suddenly, they're not in the bed anymore."
He continued, "I wake up one morning, glance over, and Camilla's like a football field away, man. Then, at night, when you want to cuddle up, it's like, 'Well, we've got to bridge this gap. You come 12 feet this way, and I'll meet you 12 feet that way.'"
With their children now more independent, it didn't take long for the 55-year-old actor to appreciate the charm of closeness. "You think to yourself, 'Man, this dang king-size bed isn't doing wonders for our marriage,'" he mused. "'Get rid of that beast.' So, we switched to a queen-size, where we're shoulder to shoulder. And let me tell you, it's been a game-changer for our marriage."
As Matthew and Camila's bond grows stronger with each passing year, mirroring their children's journey into adulthood, the Oscar winner has also found innovative ways to make his professional life a family affair.
In fact, Matthew recently shared the screen with his eldest son, Levi, and his own mother, Kay McConaughey, 93, in his latest film, *The Lost Bus*. "He's introducing himself, and I just happen to be right there beside him in some of the same scenes. It's pretty darn cool," Matthew gushed to E! News about his son's big-screen debut earlier this month. "Three generations. My mom has always been a performer, so she's no stranger to films. I had no clue Levi was even interested in acting."
Unsure of his son's seriousness about pursuing an acting career, the *How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days* star initially brushed off Levi's repeated requests to audition for the role of his onscreen son. "He came back four times, asking, 'Can I read for it?'" Matthew recalled, adding that he eventually pitched the idea to the casting director. "They got him on camera, he read for it, and I thought, 'Wow, he can hold his own on screen. He's got the instinct for it.'"
