Megan Thee Stallion Returns to Sold-Out ‘Moulin Rouge’ After Absence for “Extreme Exhaustion”

Megan Thee Stallion has returned to the stage in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The Grammy-winning rapper, who missed Wednesday's performance and exited mid-show on Tuesday night after falling ill, was back in the spotlight at New York's Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Thursday evening.

At the time of her absence, her representative had shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that Megan had been rushed to the hospital due to concerning symptoms. Doctors identified extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction, and low metabolic levels as the cause of her symptoms. Fortunately, Megan has since been treated and discharged, and is now resting.

Megan herself followed up with an update on Instagram. "Last night was a real wake-up call for me," she wrote. "I've been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage; I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn't."

She continued, "Hotties, I wanna be real with y'all because you mean everything to me and I hate letting you down. I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been...I'll be right back on that stage Thursday, stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100% the way you deserve."

And that's exactly what she did, returning to the stage on Thursday night in the role of Zidler. This not only marked her first-ever Broadway performance but also the first time a woman has played the role in the beloved and long-running jukebox musical.

Megan's return to the show was a sold-out event, and E! News shared a video of her arriving at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in a pink sweatsuit and furry boots ahead of her performance. A rep for the show confirmed her return, and THR reached out to her rep for additional comment.

The role of Zidler has previously been filled by famous names such as Boy George, Wayne Brady, Tituss Burgess, and most recently Bob the Drag Queen. It was originated by Danny Burstein, a veteran Broadway star who won a Tony for his performance.

"I've always believed in pushing myself creatively," Megan said in a statement about joining the show. "And theater is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace."
