Ladies and gentlemen, mark this momentous occasion: Meryl Streep has graced the stage of "Saturday Night Live" for the very first time. Until Sunday, the iconic actress had never hosted nor graced the screens of "SNL," but she made a triumphant debut during the star-studded 50th anniversary special of the long-running sketch comedy show.
The three-time Academy Award winner seamlessly joined the recurring "Close Encounter" sketch, alongside "SNL" veteran Kate McKinnon. McKinnon's character regaled the audience with her NSFW tale of alien abduction. The sketch also featured Woody Harrelson and Pedro Pascal, who, along with McKinnon, found themselves abducted by extraterrestrial beings but described a far more agreeable encounter. They were then grilled by military officials portrayed with flair by Jon Hamm and Aidy Bryant.
Entering the scene with a flair for drama, Streep transformed into McKinnon's character Colleen Rafferty's mother. Donning an ensemble reminiscent of Colleen's trademark pastel Hawaiian shirt, she completed the look with a cigarette dangling from one hand and a styrofoam cup in the other.
Colleen Senior vividly recounted her own X-rated experience of alien abduction, elaborating on how the aliens "lost interest" and promptly shoved her into a closet. As Streep, embodying Colleen Sr., narrated her daring escape, Pascal leaned in flirtatiously to commend her on being a "good mother."
"Yeah, well, a good mother can also have a wild side," she replied seductively, turning towards him in her seat with a hint of mischief in her eyes.
Adding to the evening's surprises, Oscar-winner Jack Nicholson, donning his signature sunglasses, made a rare cameo appearance. The 87-year-old legend introduced Adam Sandler, who serenaded the audience with an original tune celebrating the 50-year history of "SNL." Nicholson's public appearances have been scarce in recent years, making this moment all the more memorable.
