Mia Hansen-Løve, the esteemed French filmmaker behind masterpieces like "Things to Come" and "One Fine Morning," is embarking on a new journey with her next cinematic offering. This time, she delves into the captivating tale of the trailblazing English writer and activist, Mary Wollstonecraft, with a period drama titled "If Love Should Die." Hansen-Løve aims to breathe life into the visionary 18th-century writer, who stands as one of the founding philosophers of feminism.

Filming for this captivating tale is slated to commence in 2025, traversing the UK, France, Scandinavia, and Portugal. Hansen-Løve expresses her profound ambition in a statement, "My heart yearns to capture, with unwavering accuracy and authenticity, this transformative era and the life of a woman that cinema has yet to explore. Mary Wollstonecraft, an iconic figure in England, remains largely unknown in France. This suits me well, as portraying a character that is overly predictable or excessively famous has never piqued my interest. I am drawn to those who embark on a quest, devoid of certainty, the most fragile yet resilient of souls."

Backed by the prestigious arthouse streamer Mubi, alongside Arte France Cinéma, with Mubi's sales arm The Match Factory handling global distribution, "If Love Should Die" promises to be a masterful addition to Hansen-Løve's illustrious oeuvre. Joining the production are co-producers Caspian Films, Les Films Pelléas, Our Films, and Norway's Mer Film.

This follows Hansen-Løve's autobiographically-tinged drama "One Fine Morning" (2022), starring Léa Seydoux, and the critically acclaimed "Bergman Island" (2021) featuring Tim Roth and Vicky Krieps. Mubi, having released "One Fine Morning" in the UK and Ireland, expressed its excitement in a statement, stating, "We are humbled and honored to collaborate with Mia once again."
