Miley Cyrus has opened up about a harrowing health ordeal that left her shaken. During a poignant revelation in the May 21st episode of The Zane Lowe Interview Series on Apple Music 1, the "Flowers" crooner recounted a harrowing moment from her Miley's New Year's Eve Party special with co-host Dolly Parton on NBC in 2023. "While hosting a show with Lorne for my New Year’s special," Miley confided, "I underwent a traumatic experience. I suffered an ovarian cyst rupture."

As the cyst—a fluid-filled sac on her ovary—burst open, spilling its contents into her abdomen, the Grammy-winner admitted she was in the dark about what was transpiring. Despite the excruciating pain, she soldiered on, performing duets with Dolly, Sia, and Paris Hilton. "It was incredibly traumatic; the pain was unbearable, yet I pushed through the show," Miley shared. "It took an immense toll on me."

In the aftermath of this health scare, the "We Can't Stop" artist momentarily pondered abandoning her singing career altogether. Fortunately, a pivotal conversation with Saturday Night Live's legendary creator Lorne Michaels several months later served as a game-changer. "I had dinner with Lorne, and his words have stuck with me ever since," Miley reminisced. "'Everyone gets six months to wallow in self-pity before we start rebuilding,' he said." He further consoled her, "'You wouldn't believe how many artists have sat in this very chair contemplating quitting music. It's a universal experience.'"

By then, the 32-year-old had surpassed her "allotted time for shutdown" and decided to give music another chance, ultimately recording her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, slated for release on May 30th. "I've always known that music will abandon me before I ever leave it," she declared about her career. "Quitting is simply not in my destiny."
