Miley Cyrus may have released yet another album, but she seemingly remains entrenched in an eternal summer vacation vibe. The former Hannah Montana star, who hasn't paired an album with live performances since her 2014 Bangerz Tour, recently delved into why she no longer views globe-trotting as an indispensable aspect of her career—and her reasons transcend her ongoing battle with Reinke's edema, a vocal condition she lives with.
"I possess the physical prowess," she clarified during a July 15 segment on Good Morning America. "Opportunities for tours are there, and I wish I had the urge, but I don't. Furthermore, I don't believe there's a supportive framework in place for artists."
The 32-year-old Miley went on to cite Prince, who was incessantly on the road, as a testament to why she thinks touring isn't in her destiny. "Staying sober while on tour is incredibly challenging," she elaborated, "and sobriety stands as a pillar of stability in my life. Nothing I create would materialize without my perspective."
Reflecting on her past touring experiences, Miley conceded, "I genuinely believe maintaining mental well-being is arduous."
This isn't the first time the Last Song star has offered insight into her dwindling live performances, having previously mentioned how her old habits worsened her Reinke's edema, which she described as a "vocal cord abuse."
"Being 21," she told Zane Lowe of Apple Music in May, "staying up late, drinking, smoking, and partying after each show didn't help."
Considering Miley's past as one of Disney's faces, her fans won't be astounded by her preference for a more relaxed pace these days. "I toiled incessantly as a child," Miley recounted to W magazine last year. "I missed out on prom, dances, and the typical social experiences. Disney flourished immensely from the relentless work I put in as a child. I harbor no grievances. It's merely the truth."
For the "End of the World" crooner, touring isn't a vital means to sustain her bond with fans. "For clarity, I feel more connected to my fans now than ever," Miley tweeted in 2023, amidst backlash over her lack of touring. "When I triumph, we all triumph. Even if I don't see them face-to-face every night at concerts, my fans resonate deeply within my heart."
As she phrased it, "I'm perpetually creating and innovating fresh ways to stay interconnected with the audience I adore—without compromising my essentials."
