The esteemed Oscar-nominated actress spoke candidly about the former president, declaring emphatically, "He undoubtedly deserves a cell in prison." Minnie Driver confessed that the mere thought of Donald Trump's potential re-election in November filled her with dread, admitting she "could never" reside in an American state led by Republicans.

During an interview with The Times of London, published online on Saturday, the British actress, who resided in Los Angeles for 27 years before her recent relocation to the U.K., was asked if she would consider returning to the U.S. should Trump defeat President Joe Biden. Driver's response was unequivocal: "If I dwelled in a Republican stronghold, the answer is a resolute no. However, residing in California, one is somewhat shielded from the storm. But the question remains: do you hide in a bubble or brave the flames to lend a helping hand?"

The Good Will Hunting star further revealed her thoughts on the former president, following his conviction in the New York hush money trial in May. "Of course, he deserves imprisonment," she asserted. "Yet, consider the staggering amount he raised in just two days - $53 million in 48 hours. The founders of our nation, perhaps with a few mothers in the mix, might have crafted a different constitution. But as it stands, there's no provision for a nation so foolish as to elect a convicted criminal. The judiciary stands silent on what would happen if he wins. It's a conundrum indeed, with the Secret Service already scouting prisons, wondering, 'What would this look like?'"

Driver added that Trump is merely a symptom, not the sole culprit. "There are 70 million people who embrace racist ideologies, support non-existent immigration policies, and dismantle environmental agencies. They've always existed; Trump merely gave them a face. He's their mascot now."

When probed on whether she believed the U.K. was in a better political state, Driver quipped, "At least our memes are more amusing." She continued, "I'm more hopeful for the U.K. Despite our divisions, there's a stronger bond among us. We discuss our issues, we laugh about them, but we never resort to violence." Earlier this week, the Labour Party secured a historic victory in the 2024 U.K. general election, defeating the ruling Conservative Party.
