Molly Shannon is set to reunite with her former Saturday Night Live (SNL) co-star, Will Ferrell, in an upcoming Netflix comedy series that is also undergoing significant behind-the-scenes transformations. Sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, who were credited as co-creators and executive producers when Netflix acquired the series in May 2024, have parted ways with the untitled project due to creative disagreements. Additionally, Andy Campagna from Youssef's Cairo Cowboy production company has also exited the show.
The series, which stars Ferrell as a fictional golf legend, marks his debut in a continuous role within a comedy series, a departure from his sketch comedy roots in SNL. Shannon, who has recently garnered acclaim for her roles in Only Murders in the Building and The Other Two, will portray a character named Stacy.
Shannon and Ferrell have shared the screen numerous times beyond SNL, including in SNL-inspired films like A Night at the Roxbury and Superstar, the cult IFC miniseries The Spoils of Babylon and its sequel The Spoils Before Dying, and various events such as the 2018 Rose Parade and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, where they hilariously portrayed fictional TV hosts Tish Cattigan and Cord Hosenbeck.
For the Netflix series, Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor are executive producing under Gloria Sanchez Productions. They are joined by Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue of T-Street, along with Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest. Notably, the latter four joined the series after the departures of Youssef, Rabinowitz, and Campagna.
As for Youssef, his collaboration with Netflix continues through a first-look deal signed last year with Cairo Cowboy. Youssef, alongside Ramy actor Steve Way, is developing a series for the streamer set in a living facility, promising more exciting content to come.
