Fox has embraced the warmth of a second season for its aptly labeled "cozy crime" drama, "Murder in a Small Town," renewing the captivating show for another round of intrigue. Based on L.R. Wright's enchanting Karl Alberg novel series, this renewal marks Fox's inaugural step into renewing live-action scripted programming for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Produced by Sepia Films in collaboration with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, "Murder in a Small Town" also graces the screens of Canada's Global networks. Having wrapped up its first season's eight-episode run in November, the series continues to enthrall audiences.
"We eagerly anticipate offering our fans another season of Karl Alberg's unparalleled crime-solving prowess in 'Murder in a Small Town,'" enthused Brooke Bowman, Fox's executive vice president of drama programming and development, in a statement. "Our remarkable partnership with Sepia and Future Shack, coupled with our incredibly skilled cast and crew, has been a delight, and we can hardly wait to uncover the adventures awaiting our characters in the next season."
"Murder in a Small Town" revolves around Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), who seeks solace in a serene coastal town,I escaped the cumbersome burdens of my police work in the metropolis. However, he swiftly discovers that his new haven harbors numerous secrets, necessitating the utilization of all his world-class detective skills to unravel the myriad cases that continue to wash ashore.
Kristin Kreuk also shines in this ensemble, joined by a season one cast that boasts James Cromwell, Stana Katic, Mya Lowe, Savonna Spracklin, Aaron Douglas, Fritzy-Klevans Destine, Katey Wright, and Dakota Guppy.
"We're absolutely thrilled to extend our collaboration with our wonderful partners at Fox and Sepia," expressed Jeff Wachtel, CEO of Future Shack. "Beyond serving as a testament to our creative and popular success, securing a second season solidifies Future Shack's international model's capacity to produce high-quality, cost-effective series."
According to Nielsen, "Murder in a Small Town" averaged 3.15 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing, excluding streaming figures. Fox notes that the show ranks among its top three performers of the season on Hulu, albeit without providing specific data. As an international co-production, the series proves more cost-effective for Fox compared to a typical hour-long drama.
