Tyrese Haliburton has embarked on a nostalgic journey by proposing to his college sweetheart, Jade Jones, in a heartwarming throwback to their shared academic days. The Indiana Pacers player chose the hallowed grounds of Illinois State University, their alma mater, to pop the question. On July 28th, as captured in enchanting photos and videos posted on Instagram, Tyrese knelt down on the basketball court inside Hilton Coliseum, presenting his six-year girlfriend with a stunning, oval-cut diamond ring that sparkled with promise.
"The place where our love story first blossomed," penned the NBA star in the caption, "and where we embark on our next thrilling chapter." Jade responded playfully in the comments, "Future Mrs. What the Hali," hinting at their upcoming nuptials with a touch of whimsy.
Tyrese's fellow athletes hailed his romantic gesture as a grand slam, with WNBA star Caitlin Clark exclaiming, "WEDDING TIMEEEEE. LOVE YALL!" Jalen Smith of the Chicago Bulls joked, "Ohhhhhhh s--tttt it’s about time," while Buddy Hield of the Golden State Warriors added, "Congratulations my Dawg."
Tyrese may have the opportunity to focus intently on wedding preparations in the months ahead, as he is set to miss the entirety of the upcoming 2025-2026 NBA season due to a torn Achilles tendon. He underwent surgery in June and is focused on recovery.
"At 25, I’ve come to understand that God’s burdens are never too heavy for us to bear," Tyrese captioned an Instagram photo of himself on a hospital bed last month. "I know I’ll emerge from this trial a stronger individual and an even better player." He further reflected, "My path to this point hasn’t been by chance; I’ve pushed myself relentlessly towards greatness, and I’ll continue to do so."
While acknowledging that sitting out an entire season "sucks," Tyrese expressed gratitude for every experience in his burgeoning career. "I’m thankful for the outpouring of love from the basketball world," he shared. "I don’t ‘have to’ endure this; I ‘get to’ endure this. I’m grateful for the journey that lies ahead. Watch me bounce back with renewed vigor. So, grant me some time; I’ll brush myself off and return as the best version of Tyrese Haliburton."
Similarly, Jade remains unwavering in her belief that Tyrese’s career is far from over. "You’ve been nothing short of extraordinary," she penned to her long-time love on Instagram on June 23. "I’ll forever be your biggest cheerleader, eternally proud of you!"
