Sam Neill's appetite for portraying colossal, terrifying creatures remains insatiable. The veteran actor, best known for his role in "Jurassic Park," has signed on to the latest installment of Legendary's MonsterVerse, adding another layer to his illustrious cinematic resume.
This upcoming film serves as the sequel to the 2024 blockbuster "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," which amassed an impressive $571 million at the global box office. Details about the plot are being meticulously guarded, but according to the studio, the movie promises to introduce "an ensemble of fresh human characters alongside the cherished and iconic titans, Godzilla and Kong, as they confront an existential threat poised to obliterate the world." Grant Sputore will helm the project, with a screenplay penned by Dave Callaham.
Neill joins the ranks alongside newcomer Kaitlyn Dever, leading a human cast that also boasts Jack O'Connell as her brother and Dan Stevens, who previously portrayed the laid-back monster veterinarian and dentist Trapper in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire."
Since its inception in 2014 with "Godzilla," Legendary's MonsterVerse has garnered over $2.5 billion at the global box office, spanning films such as "Kong: Skull Island" (2017), "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" (2019), and "Godzilla vs. Kong" (2021). Additionally, it has spun off into a critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series, "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," with a second season currently in development.
Neill, represented by CAA and Authentic Talent Management, was recently featured in the Peacock series "Apples Never Fall" and will soon be seen in the Netflix mystery series "Untamed." He immortalized the character of Dr. Alan Grant in "Jurassic Park," reprising the role for "Jurassic Park III" (2001) and "Jurassic World Dominion" (2022).
