Nick Jonas has opened up about the "extremely intense" circumstances surrounding the birth of his daughter, Malti Marie. The Jonas Brothers star and his actress wife, Priyanka Chopra, welcomed their first child into the world via surrogate in January 2022.
In a recent appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Nick shared some new details about Malti's premature arrival. He revealed that the infant weighed just one pound, 11 ounces (765 grams) at birth.

"She came into this world under a set of circumstances that have been incredibly intense," he said. "We were expecting her to arrive in April of the year she was born, but we received a call that it was going to be sooner. So, we quickly sprang into action, and she was born through a surrogate."
Due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time, Nick and Priyanka traded 12-hour shifts at the hospital for the first three months of Malti's life. "But she fought every day for three and a half months," Nick continued. "Slowly, she started to gain some weight, and after six blood transfusions, she was doing great, and we were able to bring her home."
Elsewhere in the conversation, Nick noted that his now four-year-old daughter is "perfect in every way." "I feel like she knows how she entered this world and what that first chapter of her life was like," he said with a smile. "Every day is a gift, and you can feel it in the way she behaves and how excited she is about everything. I don't know how much she remembers, but spiritually, I believe there's gratitude in her and that she's incredible."
Nick and Priyanka wed in 2018, and Nick is currently promoting his upcoming fifth studio album, Sunday Best, which is set to be released on Friday.
