Nicole Kidman Bends the Rules at the 2026 Met Gala by Bringing Daughter Sunday Rose, 17, as Her Glamorous Date

Nicole Kidman has returned to the illustrious Met Gala, this time accompanied by her stylish date and daughter, Sunday Rose, who is making her debut appearance at this star-studded fashion event. Tonight marks a very special Met for the 58-year-old actress, who is co-chairing the event alongside Beyoncé, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, and her 17-year-old model daughter.

The pair walked the carpet together in vibrant looks that are perfect for spring. The Babygirl star chose a deep red sequined Chanel gown after attending the label's 2027 Cruise collection. The eye-catching ensemble featured a drop waist adorned with a feather peplum and a small train. Sunday dove right into seasonal florals in a strapless pink and lilac gown with a billowing bodice. She accessorized her dress with a matching purse and statement earrings.

Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel oversaw the pair's glamorous hairstyles. Kidman went for a banged-down look while Sunday opted for long tresses parted to the side.

Sunday's appearance seemingly bent the rules on the Met Gala age limit. Invitees must be 18 or older to attend the event, a rule that was brought to light in May 2018 when Dance Moms alum Maddie Ziegler told The Hollywood Reporter that she "can't go because I'm not old enough."

"Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" was the Met Gala theme that year, prompting speculation over whether the age restriction was in place because of it. Event organizers told the outlet that it had nothing to do with the theme, rather an executive decision that "it's not an appropriate event for people under 18."

Sunday is a budding runway star who, since making her catwalk debut as part of Miu Miu's spring/summer 2025 show in Paris in October 2024, has been a fixture at Fashion Week. As part of the Met's spring 2026 exhibition titled "Costume Art," the dress code of this year's gala is "Fashion is Art." Revealed in November, the 2026 exhibition marks the inauguration of the Costume Institute's first permanent galleries at the museum.

Kidman shares Sunday and daughter Faith Margaret, 15, with ex-husband Keith Urban. She is also mom to daughter Bella, 33, and son Connor, 31, whom she shares with ex Tom Cruise.

Sunday spoke to Elle Australia for the magazine's March cover story. She revealed that getting to visit photo shoot sets with her mom as a child inspired her to dip her toes into the modeling world and film industry. "I definitely gained a lot of interest from those experiences and especially being privileged enough to experience them at a young age," Sunday explained. "My mum is someone who has always been so creative and my biggest inspiration in life. She's a key part of everything I do."

Since she has grown up in the spotlight, Sunday also told the outlet that being in school has been a "really helpful" tool in staying grounded and navigating online attention. "The privilege of having these experiences and meeting so many new people is so amazing, but as a teenager, it's so easy to get sucked into all of it so fast," she said. "So being able to come back [to Nashville] and keep that perspective of being back at high school keeps me grounded."

Last year, Kidman attended the Met Gala without Urban (the two finalized their divorce in January this year), wearing a black vintage-inspired Balenciaga gown. Per Vogue, Balenciaga designer Demna used a gown featured in a 1952 issue of Harper's Bazaar London as inspiration. At the waist and hips, the look featured silk satin bow belts.

"Balenciaga is a house that has developed and evolved in such a specific way over the years," Kidman told Vogue. "When Demna sent me this sketch, I was inspired by the way he was able to take such a beautiful piece from the house's past and modernize it in a way that felt so uniquely me."

She also shocked fans with a dramatic hair transformation, showing up on the Met steps with a super-short style. Her hairstylist, Adir Abergel, showed off the look on Instagram, writing, "The inspiration was a tailored short cut that brought out the essence of Dandyism on Nicole Kidman. I wanted to celebrate this year's theme by honoring the Dandies and their individuality, elegance, and confidence - where every detail is tailored to that unique person."
