In a recent interview, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman revealed exciting news about the possible third season of "Big Little Lies." The pair disclosed that renowned author Liane Moriarty is currently working on the script for the new season, and they are in excellent shape with potential additional episodes in the pipeline.

The two actresses, who have been teasing fans with hints about a potential third season, shared insights into their discussions about where the stories might unfold in the upcoming season. "I get the ring ring: 'Hey, is [season 3] happening?' Like, Nic," Witherspoon joked to Kidman. "You got excited."

"I got excited," Kidman agreed, adding a touch of excitement to the conversation.

"It's OK, baby. I get excited too. Then I've got Laura [Dern] calling me and Zoe [Kravitz] and Shailene [Woodley]. They're all like, 'Nic said that we're making Big Little Lies season three?'" Witherspoon continued, revealing that their co-stars were also eagerly awaiting news about the new season.

Kidman then confirmed that season three is indeed happening. "But we are now! We're moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book," she said, her enthusiasm palpable. "Yeah, and we're in good shape."

After her earlier comments about the new season quickly spread, Kidman joked that they should "shut up" from now on, as there's a saying that you shouldn't talk about something until it's done. "If you talk about doing it, it's the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you've done it," she explained.

Witherspoon echoed her sentiments, adding a touch of humor to the conversation. "Well, I have a rule. It's called, 'Don't be full of shit,'" she laughed. "It's called 'The No-BS Rule in Hollywood,' because how many people tell you they're doing X, Y, Z, only to never deliver? It's like, 'I don't want to talk about it until I'm standing in the costume on the set.' Then I will confirm to you that it's happening. It's really hard to stop the excitement once you're standing on set in costume."

The pair's excitement and anticipation for the new season of "Big Little Lies" are palpable, and fans are eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite characters and the unfolding of their captivating stories.

Sources close to the hit series revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in January that Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman had hatched an exciting concept for a third season and were gearing up to present a formal pitch to HBO. In an engaging interview with Elle, Kidman elaborated on the need for time after the release of the second season in 2019 to map out the captivating narratives that awaited.

"The storylines are rich and layered, as we've always discussed, but it required patience," Kidman explained. "There's an unbelievable depth to the next chapter of these women's lives and their children's lives — because children grow up, and that's what's truly fascinating."

The ensemble cast, which boasts talents like Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz, remains as tight-knit as ever. Kidman attributed their strong bond to the ease of coordinating schedules and reuniting on set. "When you're all scattered and never really cross paths, it's a completely different story," she said. "But when you're still deeply interconnected, it makes everything possible because there's a shared willingness and desire to spend time together."

The first season of the series, which was based on Liane Moriarty's blockbuster novel and brought to life by producer David E. Kelley, premiered in 2017 and went on to sweep eight Emmys, including the coveted Best Limited Series award.
