Nicole Kidman ventured to this magical place not for monetary gain but for the love of movies. The Oscar winner reminisced about the creation of her iconic AMC Theaters ad, which premiered in September 2021. She confessed that her motivation was a genuine desire to revive movie attendance in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, rather than chasing a hefty paycheck.

"I called in favors from all corners," she said during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 2. "We did it for free, and it took off." Indeed, at 58, Nicole assembled a talented crew, including cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth and screenwriter Billy Ray, to bring the viral pre-roll segment to life.
"I asked, 'Should we do this? We need to help the theaters,'" she recalled of her conversation with Billy. "It was during COVID when we did it. I approached the crew I was working with on Being the Ricardos and asked, 'Would you guys be willing to do this?'"
"I had no idea that it would resonate so well," she added. "We did it with pure intentions."
The Big Little Lies star's efforts bore fruit as the ad continues to enchant moviegoers. She even hinted at the possibility of creating another marketing video. "Maybe, yes," she exclusively told E! News in October 2024. "Yes, you need to talk to Adam [Aron, CEO of AMC Theaters]."
In fact, Nicole—who shares children Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, with ex Keith Urban, as well as Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, with ex Tom Cruise—suggested that plans were already underway to produce another commercial. "We're in the making," she continued. "I'm using a Practical Magic term: There's things brewing."
