"Not True" Disney Exec Comments on Live-Action Zootopia Movie Rumor

Published: Dec 04 2025

Disney's Zootopia 2 is currently dominating cinemas, shattering major box office records, sparking a frenzy of speculation and commentary on the franchise's future. Some have even suggested the possibility of a live-action remake of Zootopia, with viral posts on Twitter/X and AI-generated images circulating like wildfire.

After an account posted a rumor on Twitter claiming Disney was working on a live-action Zootopia, the Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Jared Bush, swiftly responded to quash the claim. As the Co-Director of both Zootopia movies and the man behind the scenes at Mickey Visit, where we bring you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disney's plans to reduce phone use and new rides coming to Disney, Bush's comment was met with much attention.

The initial report on Twitter, seemingly coming from a parody account, stated, "A Live Action 'ZOOTOPIA' remake is reportedly in early development at Disney. Disney is planning on shooting it in a style similar to the live-action remake of 'THE LION KING'." Jared Bush responded with a firm "Not True." When someone pointed out that the @DiscussingFish account sharing the report was indeed a parody account, Bush responded with a lighthearted "Oh no! You're right. I have lost aura." The response was met with a flood of praise for the new Zootopia 2 movie and a sentiment that no matter what, Jared's aura would never be diminished after giving them Zootopia 2.

In addition to the Twitter/X post, fake movie posters circulating on Facebook suggesting Disney is creating a live-action Zootopia movie are all fan-made and not legitimate. The new Zootopia 2 movie opened this week and is breaking records globally, estimated to pass $520M+ in the global opening weekend. This is the biggest global opening for an animated film ever and could become one of the top 5 biggest opening weekends for any film ever.

Zootopia 2 has become the first Hollywood movie ever to pass $100M in a single day in China, previously held by Marvel's Avengers: Endgame. In the film, rookie cops Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) find themselves on a twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De'Snake (voice of Ke Huy Quan) arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal-metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.

Have you seen the new movie yet? It's doing huge numbers internationally and in the United States. Let me know what you think!
