ABC's "Shifting Gears" is gearing up for the holidays with a special guest appearance by the brilliant and fearless creator and star of "Better Things," Pamela Adlon. The Tim Allen-led comedy has just cast Adlon in a guest role as Gabriel's (Seann William Scott) opinionated single mother, and the episode, titled "Nutcracker," is scheduled to air on December 10th.

In this holiday-themed episode, the Parkers find that romance isn't always a smooth ride. Matt (Allen) and Eve (Jenna Elfman) are on thin ice, while Gabe enlists Riley (Kat Dennings) to help Amelie (Carson Fagerbakke) impress his mom (Adlon). Meanwhile, Carter (Maxwell Simkins) seeks help with his "promposal."
"Shifting Gears" has already made a solid start in its second season on ABC. The October 1 season premiere drew 7.57 million cross-platform viewers over its first seven days, and the show is averaging a little under 4 million viewers for its initial airings on the network.
Produced by 20th Television, "Shifting Gears" is executive produced by Tim Allen, Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily, and John Amodeo. Dennings is also a producer on the show.
Adlon will also reprise her voice role as Bobby in Hulu's "King of the Hill" revival, which was recently renewed for two more seasons. She won an Emmy for the role in 2002 and has two lead actress Emmy nominations for her work on FX's "Better Things." Her recent live-action credits include episodes of Hulu's "Mid-Century Modern" and "History of the World Part II" and CBS's "Elsbeth." She is represented by CAA, Vie Entertainment, ID, and Felker Toczek.
