Paris Jackson stands firm in her decision amidst the storm surrounding her scheduled performance on June 25th, the somber anniversary of her father Michael Jackson's passing. As part of her tour alongside Incubus and Manchester Orchestra, the 27-year-old found herself at the receiving end of criticism for choosing to perform on this poignant date. In response, Paris, who shares her lineage with her late father and her 28-year-old brother Prince Jackson from his marriage to ex-wife Debbie Rowe, penned an unapologetic message on her Instagram Story on June 13th, as reported by The Independent.
"Here we go again, folks are upset," Paris began, her words tinged with irony. "One of the tour dates for my journey with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra falls on June 25th, a date that carries an incredibly heavy weight for me and my family." She then elaborated on her rationale for proceeding with the gig, her tone shifting to a mix of explanation and sarcasm.
"Let me clarify for these individuals: when you're not the headline act, you don't get to cherry-pick your performance dates," she continued. "Am I supposed to say, 'Sorry folks, we can't play on this day?'" Her message concluded with a blunt, unfiltered remark aimed at her detractors: "Fuck you."
This isn't the first occasion where Paris, who is engaged to songwriter Justin Long, has had to justify how she chooses to pay tribute to her late father, who passed away in 2009. In August 2023, she addressed why she chose not to mark what would have been his 65th birthday on Instagram.
"Today marks my dad's birthday, and during his lifetime, he detested any form of acknowledgment on this day," she shared in a video. "He actually went to great lengths to conceal his birthday from us, fearing we might organize a celebration or something similar." Although Paris lambasted those who criticized her for not posting birthday wishes to her father, who is also the dad of 22-year-old Bigi Jackson, she did pay homage to him during her show with Incubus that same day.
"He devoted 50 years of his life, imbued with blood, sweat, tears, love, and passion, to enable me to stand before you on this stage, screaming into a microphone," she declared, referring to Michael. "Thus, I owe him everything."
