Pete Davidson, a seasoned vet of Saturday Night Live, is poised to pour his heart into fatherhood. The actor, who is expecting his first child with his pregnant girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, made a surprise return to the NBC sketch comedy series on November 8th, where he quipped about how the impending arrival of a baby has already begun to reshape his life.

During the Weekend Update segment, Pete joined forces with Colin Jost to discuss a New York Times article about the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry they purchased together in 2022. Though he admitted he hadn't read the story himself, he joked, "In case you're wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we're losing millions on this ferry. I assume that's what the article says. I can't spend $5 on a paywall when I got a kid on the way."
Indeed, the 31-year-old, who last appeared on SNL as a guest host in 2023, compared the anticipation of becoming a parent to his eight-season tenure on the long-running program. But the comparison wasn't entirely favorable. "I'm excited to be a dad," he continued, "and give it all the energy and enthusiasm I never had for this show." However, the comment was clearly in jest, as Pete has frequently credited the show and its creator Lorne Michaels for launching his successful career.
"I'd do anything for Lorne," he told People in an interview published on November 8th. "I had a great time hosting last time, and anytime you get that call, it's an honor and a privilege." He went on, "I owe that guy my life. He jump-started everything. So I'd do anything for Lorne, and he knows that."
For now, however, the Bodies Bodies Bodies actor is focused on being the best dad he can be when his little one arrives. "I'm very lucky and very, very happy," he told E! News in July. "I assume you just try to give them what you didn't have, and what you didn't like, not do it."
