Cardi B expects nothing less than financial savvy and ambition from her little ones. Just a month after the "Bodak Yellow" rapper announced she's expecting her fourth child—her first with boyfriend Stefon Diggs—she opened up about what would be her "worst disappointment" as a parent. "Please, don’t be lazy," Cardi—mother to Kulture, 7, Wave, 4, and Blossom, 13 months, with ex Offset—implored during her Oct. 6 appearance on *On Purpose* with Jay Shetty. "Don’t be a bum. Some people have the looks, the intelligence, the talent—they’ve got it all. But they never go anywhere because they’re lazy."
Though Cardi’s 15 minutes of fame seem to stretch on indefinitely, the 32-year-old refuses to let her children coast on her or their fathers’ legacies. "Don’t just lean on, ‘Oh, your parents are this and that,’" she pressed. "No, be your own person. Carve your own path. Be something—something you’re proud of."
Indeed, Cardi’s vision for her kids is nothing short of upward mobility—but she couldn’t care less about the specifics of their careers. "I’m not breaking my back for y’all just so you can end up being nobodies," she declared bluntly. "There are things I couldn’t do that I want my kids to conquer. I want you to outsmart me. I want you to be a hundred times better than I ever was."
For Cardi, witnessing her mother, Clara Almánzar, grind tirelessly left an indelible mark, and she’s determined to pass on that same work ethic to her four children. "I want them to say, ‘My mom worked every single day. I saw her hustle,’" she explained. "Be that example. One day, you’ll have kids of your own, and you’ll want them to say the same about you—that you worked hard every day, that everything you achieved, you earned."
