A week after his departure, Jones was laid to rest in a private ceremony held in Los Angeles, attended solely by his seven children, brother, two sisters, and other immediate family members. In a statement, the family expressed their "immense gratitude for the heartfelt condolences and tributes received from friends and fans worldwide." They further announced that a "memorial celebration of Mr. Jones' life will be announced at a future date."
Jones enjoyed an illustrious and influential seven-decade career as a producer, composer, and arranger. One of his daughters, the actress Rashida Jones, also paid her respects, describing her father as a giant, an icon, and a "culture shifter." She added, "He made everyone he met feel loved and valued. That is his enduring legacy. I was fortunate to experience this love intimately. I will deeply miss his hugs, kisses, unconditional devotion, and wise counsel."
