Apple TV+ has secured an Emmy Award-winning talent to helm the upcoming season of its captivating legal thriller, "Presumed Innocent." Rachel Brosnahan, renowned for her starring role in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," has inked a deal to take center stage in the sophomore run of the series, helmed by David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. Brosnahan will not only shine as the lead actress but will also don the hat of an executive producer.
The inaugural season of "Presumed Innocent," adapted from Scott Turow's gripping novel, saw Jake Gyllenhaal portraying a prosecutor wrongfully accused of murdering a colleague. In a bold move, Apple TV+ has decided to transform the series into an anthology format for its renewal, diverging from Gyllenhaal's character (who will, however, continue as an executive producer for season two).
Drawing inspiration from "Dissection of a Murder," an upcoming novel by Jo Murray slated for a July 2026 release by Pan Macmillan, the forthcoming season promises to entrance viewers once again. While the specifics of the plot remain tightly under wraps, the novel's synopsis hints at a tale centered around a youthful lawyer who fiercely defends an accused murderer of a highly esteemed judge.
Produced by Bad Robot and David E. Kelley Productions in collaboration with Warner Bros. TV, "Presumed Innocent" will welcome Kelley and Erica Lipez (of "The Morning Show" fame) as co-showrunners for season two. They will executive produce alongside Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich of Bad Robot, Matthew Tinker from David E. Kelley Productions, Dustin Thomason, Gyllenhaal (via his Nine Stories company), and Brosnahan. Turow retains his role as a co-executive producer.
Brosnahan, who garnered five Emmy nominations for her role in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and claimed the Best Lead Actress in a Comedy trophy in 2018, is set to enchant audiences as Lois Lane in director James Gunn's upcoming "Superman," slated for theatrical release on July 11. Her impressive resume also includes stints in "House of Cards," "Manhattan," and "The Amateur." Represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Schreck Rose, and the Lede Company, Brosnahan continues to captivate and inspire with her versatility and talent.
